Education, health and justice are all things everybody deserves a right to. Everyone.
But in certain parts of our world, this is not apparent. Women especially are isolated in society due to lack of education, poor or no healthcare and a weak male-dominated justice system. Chime For Change is an organisation focusing on the awareness of lack of women’s rights in certain areas of the world. It is a global campaign to bring together women from all around the world to empower, inspire and influence anyone who’ll listen, and they should.
The organisation founded by Gucci creative director, Frida Ginanni, along with Beyonce and Salma Hayek have come together to organise a charity concert in London named ‘The Sound of Change’ on 1st June to raise money for this inspirational cause. Held at Twickenham Stadium, the concert will feature performances from artists such as Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, Iggy Azalea, John Legend, Timbaland, Rita Ora, Laura Pausini with of course a headlining performance from Queen Bey herself, as well as other acts to be announced.
The Sound of Change will be televised globally to ensure maximum coverage and exposure. More infomation on global broadcasting will be available nearer the time. Proceeds from all tickets sales will go to the organisation, underwritten by Gucci to ensure that all proceeds go to worthy projects and causes.
NONE OF US CAN MOVE FORWARD IF HALF OF US ARE HELD BACK.
So I couldn’t stick with my minimalism obsession strictly, so here is a break from all the clean lines and block colours with some fantasy-land-esque numbers from the one and only Vivienne Westwood. I’m going to pick looks from both the Vivienne Westwood A/W13 collection and the Vivienne Westwood Red Label A/W13 collection because I simply can’t decide on a favourite show to review.
Here are my highlights from the Vivienne Westwood show:
Aren’t they just to die for? The tulle, the contrasts of colour and texture, the hair and makeup, the gooooorgeous footwear. Pure fantasy clothing that will make your eyes pop and get your heart racing. Beyond your wildest dreams.
Now for the Red Label collection:
It had more of a 50s pin-up vibe to it with obvious Westwood touches of glam. With her signature shapes, necklines and bold fabric choices, this collection was a shining star or A/W13. And can I just give an extra mention to THAT petrol-irredescent biker jacket paired with the sequinned harem pants? OH-EM-GEE. I would die.
So as you’ll know from a previous post, I have recently embraced minimalism, which I must say is stepping into very new, very strange territory for me. I’m a Galliano/Westwood/McQueen girl so for me to embrace the simplicity of the Celine’s of the catwalk is a big BIG fashion step.
My two favourite collections from A/W13 that embraced the art of minimalism were by far Celine and Apiece Apart.
I adored the fabric layering and contrasting materials at Celine, as well as those TODIEFOR ankle boots!
And then there was a certain kind of androgynous-sexiness going on at Apiece Apart that I was just so drawn to. All the looks just seem so easy to wear, go with everything and give off a ‘I-just-threw-this-on-and-don’t-I-look-seemlessly-amazing?’ look.
If someone was to ask me who my ultimate style icon is, it would definitely be Gwenny Gwen Gwen. Ms Stefani has, in my opinion, THE best, most fab, classiest, coolest wardrobe in the world of celebland and I would DIE to have a piece of that closet. Gwen’s latest collection for L.A.M.B has “Gwen Stefani” written all over it, I can imagine her wearing every single look from the whole collection which is what I love about it. It’s all Gwen, and therefore I’m totally into it.
Featuring black and white paired with splashes of electric blue, sharp tailoring with sky-high heels, studded accessories and of course some tartan to boot, the collection was seemlessly perfect.
It frustrates me when celebrities bring out clothing lines just for a dollaaahh or two more (or a few million) than they already have, but Gwen Stefani is different. She took a back seat on the designing side of things a few seasons ago to make more time for her family and other career as the frontwoman of ultra-cool band No Doubt, but the label is still ALLLL Gwen.
I loooove this collection, one of my highlights from A/W13. I just wish I could afford that AMAZING blue suit with the shirt and tie. And that back and white bag. And that leather frilled skirt. And those tartan tailored trousers. Oh alright, I wish I could afford all (or any) of it!
So it has to be said, I’ve FINALLY got into the whole “minimalism” thing. I don’t know how, I don’t know why but all of a sudden I find myself craving me some Jil Sander-esque almost clinically minimalistic attire. Cos is my new best friend.
I’ve always been a maximalist. ALWAYS. I’ve always been the “sequins and leopard print” kind of gal, but I’ve just recently been embracing the joys of a plain white tee. Perhaps my tastes are a-changing, my eyes are looking at things in a whole new light and my brain is wanting a clean slate.
I’m just going to go ahead and show you some of my favourite minimalist pieces from Cos this week. Cos is AMAZING. Really, it is. Not too expensive, the quality is that of a designer brand and best of all, everything looks like it could literally be Jil Sander. What more could you possibly want? Visit Cos
Monochrome is back for fall! You have no idea how much I am revelling in this. To be brutally honest with you though, I will probably be rocking the monochrome “trend” every single season until I am six feet under. I love it that much. But knowing that it’s “fashionably acceptable” to be sporting the two-tone trend makes it even more exciting. And yes, it is exciting. Take the Viktor & Rolf show pictured here; Three different ways of wearing black and white in one collection. The flirty, girly mini mini itsy-bitsy-with-an-edge dress, oversized bow included; the preppy chic monochrome style and the rock chick androgyny of a printed tailored suit.
