PRABAL GURUNG A/W14

Deconstructed tailored suits paired with almost sportswear-esque jersey, silk and feathers in a mashed-up collection of loveliness was what Prabal Gurung offered us to wear for Fall 2014 and who wouldn’t want to partake? I’m really liking the complicated shapes and over exaggerated lines that he’s created using his deconstruction techniques. All of this paired with simple hair and makeup and shoes sets everything in motion for a glamorously casual Fall.

WEDNESDAY WISHLIST.

So with no earphones or book to entertain me on my train ride back to uni, I had to succumb (quite willingly) to the internet. Mainly the “shopping” corner of the internet. You know, that place that somehow lures you in every time you log on and whoops! suddenly you have another pair of jeans that you don’t need, three more lipsticks and a whole chunk missing from your bank account. Guilty as charged.

Whilst I did go on a spree somewhere between Stevenage and King’s Cross, I also held back and didn’t buy EVERYTHING I wanted. Here is a few things I could’ve bought to depress my bank account further.

NICOLE MILLER A/W14

I’m loving the tough-girl-with-a-twist theme coming from Nicole Miller’s show this season. The all black colour palette with vibrant accents of prints with peacock elements gave a subtle contrast to the textures that included leathers, studs, chains and fur. The hair and makeup contrast also worked well with the strong eyes and contoured cheekbones paired with the softness of loosely pinned up hair. Warrior girl next door was the girl of the moment.

Now this is the kind of look I love. Cool, but not overly cool. The unconventional tailoring paired with wells and shorn black wigs gives off the kind of vibe that I would want to give off every day. Every single piece in this collection is easy to wear, comfortable, beautifully made and definitely cool. It’s cool okay? I want to be this cool.

HERVE LEGER A/W14

Fierce sex appeal was basically the running theme of the Herve Leger by Max Azria show this week. Slicked back ponytails, geometric panels and thigh-high peep toe boots were all that mattered on a chilly Saturday in New York. Bandage-designed corsetry, asymmetric shapes with fringing and pleats to boot were all key aspects to the mood unto which creative director Lubov Azria sees the upcoming Winter period. Intricate beading and feather trims accessorised with bare legs provided the ever-present glitz and glam.

Following on from my post last night showcasing those goooooorgeous necklaces from Pinterest I felt inspired as I got dressed this morning. I have on my H&M coin necklace (underneath) and my Zara necklace (also the one everyone raved about because a certain Kate Middleton wore it, yawn.). Both are available to buy now both online and in stores.

AFTERNOON CHILL.

February in its true form has arrived in Britain in the form of the weather. Outside is next to miserable so I’ve chosen to stay indoors cozied up with an endless stream of trashy TV courtesy of Netflix, some interiors magazines and, of course, Pinterest. All I need now is for Starbucks to offer a delivery service and I won’t need to leave my room for at least the next four months.

STYLE INSPIRATION: NECKLACES

One of my favourite ways to make an outfit go from drab to fab in 3 seconds is by piling on the jewellery, necklaces in particular. You can be wearing a plain white tee and some simple jeans with a blazer, then throw on the chains, jewels and beads and you have a killer outfit! I personally prefer statement necklaces with larger adornments such as oversized costume jewels or large coins with robust chains, but I also find that piling on daintier pieces also works well when creating drama with jewellery. I’ve put together some of my favourite necklaces, all found on Pinterest, to offer some inspiration for those outfits that you just don’t know what to do with.
