THE HANDBAG THAT EVERYBODY NEEDS IN THEIR LIFE.

After getting a new job (yay!), being totally stressed out at how much uni work I have to do, as well as keeping on top of things on my blog (which has been a bit lax lately – sorry about that) I decided to make one of those “treat myself” purchases, a new handbag. Now it’s nothing spectacularly expensive, but unnecessary enough for me to feel a bit naughty walking out of the store. It is, of course, from Zara.

I’d seen this bag in Zara for a good few weeks now, tried it on, put it back. Tried it on, looked in the mirror, changed the length of the chain, put it back etc etc. for the past few weeks now and after a long weekend of working, I decided to to pick it up, try it on, look in the mirror and BUY IT.

Justifiable-for-purchase features include: Durable, classic and damn beautiful ridging and quilting on the fabric (it isn’t leather, however it really feels like it, such great quality), a sturdy clasp, two interior pockets for the 14 MAC lipsticks that I’m likely to ‘need’ in there, and a double-length chain that you can have long as a cross-body bag, or short as a shoulder bag. I actually prefer it as a shoulder bag with the double chain, I think it tends to work better on me like that as the longer chain reaches almost down to my knee. #shortgirlproblems

Let’s face it, I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to afford a Chanel, so this is my next best thing. It’s not a complete carbon copy, and well within its own rights in design, however it does have that classic shape, size and stature of a high-class (and high price tag) designer handbag. And at only £39.99 I think it’s a bit of a steal.

MY HANDBAG ESSENTIALS

DSC_0112It has to be said that I am rather fussy when it comes to the contents of my handbag, I like everything to have its place so that I can reach exactly for that thing at a moment’s notice. My iPhone is the same, I have all of my apps and photos in folders clearly labeled with what they hold. Perhaps I’m anal? Over-organised? Have-no-life? Possibly all three, but anyway here is the contents of my handbag…

DSC_0121The handbag that I’m using at the moment and considering my “summer bag”, although sadly the weather isn’t committing to it as efficiently as I, is by Nadia Minkoff. It’s such a cute bag for Summer and the lining is just as gorgeous…

DSC_0122Obviously first to mention of the actual contents is the most important: Beauty products. Here I’m being fancy and showing off my delicious new Chanel lipstick, but I generally carry around whichever lipstick I’m wearing that day. I also carry around a perfume dispenser (mine is from Sephora) which is such a handy device. You basically just decant your perfume into it and you can take it with you on the go so you don’t have to worry about carrying around full bottles of perfume. As you can see, it is the same size as a lipstick so really convenient.

DSC_0116I always carry a notebook around with me in my handbag, I find that writing notes in an actual book is much more tangible and satisfying that making a quick note on your phone. This leather notebook is from Home Sense.

DSC_0114Boring items to mention: obviously my purse and keys, I mean that’s a no brainer, right? My purse is from TKMaxx (doesn’t have a brand name on it, sorry!).

DSC_0117And last but not least, my life savers. My iPhone and my Filofax. We may have established by now that I’m a bit of an organisational freak so I like to keep my Filofax with me at all times, mine is the Filofax Pocket in Finsbury leather. My phone is the iPhone 4S.

WHAT I’M READING.

I’m always one to have a book on the go, all does not sit well with me if I do not have a book to read. I will read ANYTHING. Obviously I have my favourite and least favourite genres, most of the time I like reading into people that I admire or who inspire me in some way. I’m currently reading Chanel: An Intimate Life by Lisa Chaney about Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, and it’s brilliant. Really well researched and with plenty of depth; the book is a must read for anyone interested in fashion.

It goes through Chanel’s life story, from her dire upbringing, to her love affairs and her eventual mega-success and the accompanying photographs provide a visual insight into Gabrielle Chanel’s personal life.

I would thoroughly recommend it, I haven’t yet finished it, but really wanted to mention it on my blog as it’s definitely a book that I’m so so glad I bought!

I bought mine from Harrods, but you can buy it from Amazon by clicking here.

PHOTOS: MY HOLIDAY IN ALCUDIA.

I had such a fab time in Alcudia, Majorca that I thought I’d share my Instagram photos on here! I stayed at the Hotel Maritimo in Playa de Muro which I would highly recommend if you are looking on going for a relaxing break there. The hotel was great, food was amazing and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or attentive.

Here’s a small collage of photos from my week in Alcudia, 27th June – 4th July. I’ll do another post on the things I bought whilst I was there!
