#UDxGWEN – MY FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS GIFT

DSC_0003.JPG

A few months ago, when the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani palette was announced, I think it’s fair to say that I was pretty excited. Pretty excited is perhaps an understatement considering I’ve been a die hard Gwen Stefani fan since I was 11 and have been waiting for a collaboration like this for YEARS. So yes, I was *pretty* excited.

Now I have to give full credit to my BFF Hayley for this Christmas gift, she was on it like a bat out of hell getting this palette online (which sold out in minutes – go Hayley!).

The palette itself is Gwen ALL OVER. Literally, from the black and white polka dots, to the Gwen-related names of each shade, to the nod to an old No Doubt song Magic’s in the Makeup in the corner of the mirror, this couldn’t be more Gwen if it put on a platinum wig and taught you how to spell ‘bananas’.

Can we just take a moment? How DELICIOUS is this? There is not one colour in here that I wouldn’t use, even the crazier colours Harajuku (the bright pink), and Danger (the blue), are actually wearable and can be so easily transitioned from bright statement shades to blended out, more muted tones. Punk is a fab shade, the maroon in the top right corner, great deepening the crease without being as harsh as a black. My favourite shade though has to be Baby, it just seems to really bring the green out in my eyes and it’s nothing like anything I own, which I love but also hate because it means that once this runs out, that’s it.

From the gorgeous gold, black and white case, to the samples of upcoming lipstick shades (!!!!!!!!!!) this hasn’t disappointed in the slightest. This is basically my favourite palette, partly because I would buy anything that’s even vaguely associated with Gwen Stefani, but mainly because I genuinely really love these eyeshadows. Well done Urban Decay, you have a very VERY satisfied fan.

*THIS WAS 2011, DON’T JUDGE MY APPEARANCE.

COVETING: VIVIENNE WESTWOOD BAG.

20131229122827I know Christmas has been and gone, (I still have the muffin top to prove it), and although I was really lucky this past Christmas with the gifts I received, I have to admit I’m being extremely greedy and coveting more. God strike me down, I’ve probably committed 4 of the Seven Deadly Sins since the Christmas period. But this bag though, ohhhhhh this bag. It makes my heart melt. It’s just perfect. It’s £415. But it’s also perfect. I do not have £415 to spend on a handbag so I’ll just sit here and stare at it on a screen instead, whilst eating the Ben & Jerry’s we still have left over from Christmas.

CHRISTMAS LENS APPRECIATION.

I just bought a new lens for my Nikon D3200 (35mm) and although it’s taking some getting used to, I love it! My photos have gone from poor iPhone quality, to below mediocre digital camera quality, to actually alright photos from my DSLR! I’m no David Bailey by any stretch of the imagination, but I like to give it a go. Fake it ’til you make it, right?

Here are some photos I took over the Christmas period.

I’d just like to point out how proud I am of the light I decorated in our dining room. Bought all the supplies and baubles and decorated it myself. Nice little brag there.

Unbeknownst to my brother, I played paparazzo and he’s now on my blog.

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…

So Christmas is almost upon us and with only 5 days to go until the 25th, it’s fair to say the world has gone cray cray for Christmas. I always love decorating the house for this time of year, we always go fairy light crazy! Just sitting here now in my dining room I can see three sets of fairy lights in different places, which I love. I can’t get enough fairy light action. Here are some festive decorations from around my house…

The simplicity of fairy lights somehow bring me so much joy, simple pleasures satisfy a simple mind? (I hope not!) And if I had my way we’d have the house covered in white twinkles on the outside too, but I guess I’ll have to wait until I have my own place to live to satisfy that fairy light craving! Here, however, are a couple of Christmas decorations from houses in my area.

I am jealous of anybody who has beautiful lights up outside their homes!

MY NEW GLASSES!

I’m a huge fan of glasses, much to some people’s disbelief. I get people asking me all the time “Why do you not wear contacts?” and the simple answer is that I actually like wearing glasses. I find contact lenses to be a pain, I find them to be uncomfortable and “unnatural” to the eye. For me, my glasses are an important aspect of my everyday look and I try to choose glasses that reflect my style and personality. I don’t choose glasses to be discreet and blend into my face, I like to make a statement. For the past year I’ve been wearing my gorgeous Versace glasses, which I do still love, but I had my eyes tested last week at Vision Express and my eyes have both become worse by two “stages” (I don’t know what the official term is for going up stages in optometry, sorry!) and I was finding it increasingly difficult to see through them.

These are my "old" Versace glasses. I really love them still, I feel like they really suit me and I've had replacement lenses put in them. They're by Versace and I believe they come in four colours.

Now, I do love those glasses and wanted to find out how much it would cost through independent opticians to put new lenses in them to still be able to wear them. Turns out, it’s quite expensive to go to an independent opticians to do it so I enquired about it when I went for my eye test. Whilst I was there, I naturally strolled over to the vast selection they had on display and immediately began trying on as many pairs as I could and of course I decided that I wanted a new pair.

I found these glasses by Polo Ralph Lauren in the men’s section and FELL IN LOVE. I love the electric blue colour because although it’s a bright, statement making colour, it’s still quite neutral and goes with almost everything clothes-wise and makeup-wise.

I really like big framed glasses rather than the slimmer rectangular styles and the men’s section is perfect for finding the bigger frames! I also like the contrast of the white arms on these. I was toying with this pair and a pair of Prada glasses that I absolutely LOVED as well, I originally wanted a tortoiseshell pair and they were the perfect shade, but in the end I went for these; I might ask for the Prada pair for Christmas this year (fingers crossed!).

I always find my experience as a customer in Vision Express pleasing, the staff are always very helpful, sometimes perhaps a little too helpful, but I don’t mind that really. The actual opticians are always very relaxed and make you feel at ease which is always a bonus! The shop assistants, whenever I go in there, are always on hand for assistance and leave you alone when you don’t want to be hassled when trying on glasses for yourself.

I was made aware of an offer that if you spend over £149 (I think, don’t quote me on that) that you’ll get another pair of £99 glasses for free, which I think is a fab deal! However, I couldn’t actually find any glasses in the store that suited me well enough for me to choose them; because even though they were free it would be a waste for me to have them and never wear them if I wasn’t totally comfortable with the way they looked on me. This is where I asked about the price for lenses to be put into my Versace pair.

The sales assistant left the desk to ask someone about the price and came back and told me that they could treat my pair of lenses in my Versace glasses as my free second pair of glasses so I got those for free too!

I’ve also seen some amazing sunglasses in there which I might invest in at a later date. I have a pair of prescription sunglasses already under my previous prescription from last year and as it’s getting towards the end of the Summer and I’ve already been on holiday, I think it wouldn’t be wise of me to be buying into expensive pairs of prescription sunglasses at this time.

I really recommend Vision Express, (rather than Specsavers because I’ve used them too), as an opticians for the deals they have, the vast expanse of choice in terms of frames and the staff are brilliant too.

Let me know what you think of my new glasses, do you like them or are they too much?

Go to VIsion Express to see some of the selection of glasses and sunglasses they do!

2013! NEW YEAR, FRESH START, RESOLUTIONS!!!

20130102-224920.jpg
It’s January…. As in, a whole new year has begun. I hope you all had a wonderfully fulfilling Christmas and celebrated the new year with as much drunken debauchery as your heart desired. As generic as it sounds, a new year obviously signifies new beginnings, a fresh start. This year my resolutions are mainly to get this blog going properly, hopefully posting more regularly… I enjoy putting posts up and receiving your feedback, it’s always encouraging!
Another resolution is to stick to a spending budget. Ha! It’s laughable but I’m honestly going to try! I’m working full time now and I’ve never earned as much money as I am so for me to have a decent amount of money in my bank account is too much for my fashion-brain to handle! Here’s an example… Two days after Christmas, when the sales were already one day in, I decided to buy myself a McQueen dress. Yes, you did see that right, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Why do I need a McQueen dress? I don’t know. Lust? Love? Madness? But anyway…. The point is I spend too much and I need to reeeeel it in. By miles. No more designer clothing. No more expensive beauty sprees. No more shoe-buying. I have enough clothes. I have more shoes than I have room for and I have over 50 lipsticks. I think I’m good for the next 7 years, let alone just 2013.

So 2013 is the year I also go off to university…. I’m going to The University for the Creative Arts in Epsom to study Fashion Journalism in September and in all honesty I can’t wait! I’ve no idea why on earth thought I needed a gap year because I feel like I just want to get out there.

There are a couple of other personal achievements I hope to reach this year, just silly things to make myself feel better I suppose!

Anyway, this has been a rather ramble-ramble post and it’s not really going anywhere so I’ll sign off here! I have a blog post planned on my current favourite trend for this winter so that should be up in a couple of days!

Happy New Year!
xoxo
