I FINALLY JUMPED ON THE BEAUTY BLENDER BANDWAGON…

DSC_0003 copy

£18 for a sponge is ridiculous by anyone’s books, am I right? It is literally just a sponge, I can’t even imagine how much money they’re making on them. However… IT’S THE BEST THING SINCE THEY INVENTED FOUNDATION. No, really.

I fully expected not to think much of the much-raved-about Beauty Blender, I bought it on a whim when I was feeling particularly spendy – so much so that I didn’t even take photos before I used it when it was brand new, sorry about that.

The magic of this sponge is that it makes your skin look FLAWless. Completely smooth, poreless, and baby-soft. I can’t believe I haven’t owned one sooner.

I’ve used all manner of ‘dupes’ for the Beauty Blender and I totally understand why none of these products even come close to the real thing. How do they even manage it? Surely a sponge is a sponge? Apparently not.

There’s not much to say about the sponge itself – how do you go about describing a sponge?! All I can say is that for some reason, it is different to all other sponges. It doesn’t seem to drink up as much foundation as the dupes, it seems to be perfectly shaped to get a full coverage really quickly without having to use a brush or another sponge to blend it out.

All in all, I really wanted to hate it (although I’m glad I don’t considering it’s the most expensive sponge I’ve ever bought/ever will buy) but I simply don’t.

Is a Beauty Blender an essential? No, I wouldn’t say you need it over, say, dinner. But it has definitely become my most-used tool in my collection, and I would for sure repurchase it.

I’m totally converted. Damn.

THE HANDBAG THAT EVERYBODY NEEDS IN THEIR LIFE.

After getting a new job (yay!), being totally stressed out at how much uni work I have to do, as well as keeping on top of things on my blog (which has been a bit lax lately – sorry about that) I decided to make one of those “treat myself” purchases, a new handbag. Now it’s nothing spectacularly expensive, but unnecessary enough for me to feel a bit naughty walking out of the store. It is, of course, from Zara.

I’d seen this bag in Zara for a good few weeks now, tried it on, put it back. Tried it on, looked in the mirror, changed the length of the chain, put it back etc etc. for the past few weeks now and after a long weekend of working, I decided to to pick it up, try it on, look in the mirror and BUY IT.

Justifiable-for-purchase features include: Durable, classic and damn beautiful ridging and quilting on the fabric (it isn’t leather, however it really feels like it, such great quality), a sturdy clasp, two interior pockets for the 14 MAC lipsticks that I’m likely to ‘need’ in there, and a double-length chain that you can have long as a cross-body bag, or short as a shoulder bag. I actually prefer it as a shoulder bag with the double chain, I think it tends to work better on me like that as the longer chain reaches almost down to my knee. #shortgirlproblems

Let’s face it, I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to afford a Chanel, so this is my next best thing. It’s not a complete carbon copy, and well within its own rights in design, however it does have that classic shape, size and stature of a high-class (and high price tag) designer handbag. And at only £39.99 I think it’s a bit of a steal.

TODAY I’M WEARING… CLOSE UP

Shirt: Zara
Cardigan: Zara
Necklace: H&M

I picked this shirt up from Zara last weekend and I really love it, it’s so versatile and goes with so many things. The cardigan is a wraparound in grey that i also bought in black. I had a similar one from H&M from a couple of years ago that I wore so much that its poor life ended after much love. The necklace is one that I’ve featured on here before, it’s a really cool coin charm necklace from H&M. There seems to be a Zara/H&M theme going on here….

NEW IN: LEOPARD AND FUR

20140422-014049.jpg

Okay so ‘leopard and fur’ might be a tad misleading. When I hear those two scary-sounding adjectives I think of Teresa Guidice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. But of course I have impeccable taste and wouldn’t be seen dead in anything less than covetable… ahem.
So anyway, my jeans are from H&M, and the furry trainers are from
Topshop. I jumped on the slip-on sneaker bandwagon, finally, after deciding I have no comfortable shoes which are attractive enough to be seen out of the house with. even though I have three pairs of Converse and multiple other flats that are stylish and comfortable, but they’re not new so they don’t count okay?
Word to the wise, the jeans come up tiny so be warned that you will need to get them in a size or two bigger than you usually would be. Only a 4 year-old would get their arse into a UK 6 in those.

MEETING SUE KREITZMAN

I am currently studying Fashion Journalism at uni and we were recently given an assignment to make a 3-minute film on anything we wanted. A first this idea seemed daunting as it meant actually thinking of something to create the film on, being given such a broad subject can actually be harder than you first think… As a group, we decided to create our film around TV chef and artist Sue Kreitzman, who was also one of the stars from the hugely successful Channel 4 documentary “Fabulous Fashionistas”, whose colourful aesthetic and equally as bright personality made our film a joy to create. There is a link at the bottom of this post for you to view the film!

We met Sue at her exhibition in Cult Mountain, Bethnal Green just before she was due to go back to New York, to talk to her about her life, her work and her philosophies. She is such a wonderful character and it is a joy to have worked with her. Below are photos from around the gallery, which is unfortunately no longer exhibiting Sue’s work.

STYLE REFRESH: MESSY BOB

I am not one to be precious of my hair and never have been. My hair has been long(ish), bleached to within an inch of its life, pixie-cut short, darker brown, ombre-blonde, and one (or ahem, a few) case of (unintentional) orange.

As the mercury creeps up the thermometer and us Brits tempt fate by leaving the house without a (gasp!) coat, I suddenly decide I am once again bored with my current hairstyle. Apart from the pixie-crop, my hair has been in every one of those states listed above in the past year and I am about to change it again.

In time for Spring/Summer, I’d like a modern-messy-blonde-bob, with bleach highlights. I know, I know, whenever anyone mentions the word bleach the hair nazi’s come out in full force giving you the “you’ll fry your hair!!!” spiel. Like I said before I’m not precious about my hair. It’s just hair, it’ll grow back.

Below are my hair inspirations…. My original inspiration came from Instagram user chrisspy who’s selfie below I adorrrrrrrre.

MAKEOVER

So I’m in between doing research for my latest uni project and watching old episodes of Desperate Housewives and decided to give the blog a little bit of a clean up. I put my hardly existent (I literally mean no) Photoshop skills to use and freshened up the blog, woah, get me being all snazzy with Photoshop.

My blog now feels like some sort of clinic or a doctor’s surgery. With nicer clothes.

Seeing as this is a bit of a meaningless post, I might as well plug my Instagram and Twitter. See ya there, bitches.
